Welcome To Matrix Mariner

Welcome to the Matrix Mariner information site, a place where you will find guides, howtos, and general information for all sorts of marine electronics. As a professional marine electronics tech I would like to share exciting ways to set up electronics on your boat. However fun and interesting you want to make your setup, there are some cornerstone princples that are the key in choosing, integrating, and implementing electronics and software in a marine environment.

  • Useability
  • Reliability / Robustness
  • Functionality / Features
  • Modularity / Interindepencence / Redundancy
  • Simplicity
  • Performance

Matrix Mariner will try to stick to these principles in the ideas and write ups you'll find here. I'll also try to publish most of the actual interface designs and installation notes that I install on boats in our Projects section. Hopefully, you will find the plans useful for your implementation. I'll try to comment on them to make them make clear and concise. Each design is published on its own page with a description of the logic, design goals and comments.

Other things you might find here are some cool ideas you can do with computer networking and marine software on board such as creating NOAA chart overlays in Google Earth and feeding a gps to it using all free software, or some of the best ways of getting high speed internet access on board. There are also some free and open source ways of navigating with your PC. Check out the articles on OpenCPN and Seaclear. Of course, you will also find great ways to use and setup Coastal Explorer, Nobeltec or Max Sea here too. These are published in our Articles section.

Ultimately, I hope you discover useful opinions and solid engineering advice published here.

Thanks,
Matrix Mariner
